Tucker wanted to make a special, one of a kind piece for his best friend Ben's graduation present. This is a back burner design that finally happened.
The base is similar to mid-century maker Gerrit Rietveld's tri-axial Red and Blue Chair. The kicker: the four legs stick up through and join the other 412 poplar cubes. The effect is a myriad of end grain lines and swirls oriented perpendicular to each other (for the most part).
We worked on the project together and finished just in time to load it on the truck to Ben's new home. Once we got there we picked out a bomb-proof poly-stain combo and sealed up all that end grain. Now it is ready for decades of feet, beer bottles and perhaps even some coffee.
