Tucker made this chessboard case for his brother, Tyler. The checkerboard top is composed of alternating flatsawn and quartersawn redwood. Because the wood is so tight-grained, the contrast between straight lines and erratic waves is clear and serves its purpose. The case section is reclaimed Douglas fir box jointed to create two hinged halves. Two extra pieces of redwood squares were cut in half and inlaid into the sides. Rare-earth magnets keep the case closed tightly.
